Methodologies

Data on Access Accelerated company programs is pulled from publicly available information. Of the overall programs featured, 62 are based on the data that each company submitted to the Access Observatory at Boston University. The data for these programs has been reviewed both by the companies and the Access Observatory team. The Access Accelerated Open Platform aligns with the taxonomy of strategies and activities developed by Boston University to characterize and aggregate the contribution of Access Accelerated efforts.

The platform also includes company programs that have not yet gone through Access Observatory process. These additional programs have been mapped based on a detailed review of the information available from Access Accelerated website, member program website and feedback received from the companies themselves. The program mapping has been aligned with WHO Global NCD Monitoring Framework especially related to the NCD targets, countries, regions and diseases.

Contributions of Access Accelerated member company programs towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals are being mapped with a focus on SDG 3. Though health is framed as a contributor to, and beneficiary of, progress in many other SDGs, the information contained on the Open Platform only pertains to contributions made toward SDG 3.

SDG 3 includes 13 targets covering all major health priorities, grouped around the unfinished MDG agenda (SDG targets 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.7); new health priorities including NCDs, injuries and environmental issues (SDG targets 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.9), and means of implementation (MoI) targets (SDG targets 3.a, 3.b, 3.c, 3.d). MoI targets are meant to summarize the resources needed to achieve all other targets. Universal health coverage (SDG target 3.8) helps bring together these three elements of the health SDG and is key to achieving all other health targets.
