PEPFAR

The President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR/Emergency Plan) is a United States governmental initiative to address the global HIV/AIDS epidemic and help save the lives of those suffering from the disease, primarily in Africa.

PMTCT

Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programmes provide antiretroviral treatment (ART) to HIV-positive pregnant women to stop their infants from acquiring the virus.

PIP FW

The Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework is an international arrangement adopted in May 2011 by the 194 Member States of the World Health Organization. The Framework brings together Member States, industry and civil society to work together with WHO to ensure that the world is better prepared to respond to pandemic influenza.

PHEIC

The term Public Health Emergency of International Concern is defined in the IHR (2005) as “an extraordinary event which is determined, as provided in these Regulations: to constitute a public health risk to other States through the international spread of disease.

PEN

The WHO Package of Essential Noncommunicable Disease Interventions (WHO PEN) for primary care in low-resource settings is an innovative and action-oriented set of cost-effective interventions that can be delivered to an acceptable quality of care, even in resource-poor settings. These tools will enable early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases and cancer to prevent life threatening complications (e.g. heart attacks, stroke, kidney failure, amputations, blindness).

Pat-INFORMED

Pat-INFORMED seeks to make it easier for national and international drug procurement agencies to access a basic body of patent information. The program is built upon the industry's firm belief that a properly implemented patent system should not only work to sustainably incentivize innovation.

PANDRH

The Pan American Network for Drug Regulatory Harmonization (PANDRH) is an initiative of the national regulatory authorities within the Region, and PAHO, that supports the processes of pharmaceutical regulatory harmonization in the Americas, within the framework of national and sub-regional health policies and recognizing pre-existing asymmetries.

PIC/S

The Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) is a non-binding, informal co-operative arrangement between Regulatory Authorities in the field of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) of medicinal products for human or veterinary use. It is open to any Authority having a comparable GMP inspection system. PIC/S presently comprises 49 Participating Authorities coming from all over the world (Europe, Africa, America, Asia and Australasia).
